Apply for food assistance

Use this form to apply for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Most people finish in 20 to 35 minutes.

You can apply even if you are not sure. Applying does not affect your immigration status.

What you'll need

It helps to have these things, but you can start without them and add them later:

  • The names and birth dates of people who buy and make food with you
  • How much money your household gets, like pay stubs
  • What you pay for housing and utilities
  • Social Security numbers, if you have them

How long it takes

Most people finish in 20 to 35 minutes. You can stop and come back.

What happens next

After you apply, Maryland Department of Human Services, Family Investment Administration will review it. Then they set up a time to talk.

If approved, your benefits go on the Maryland EBT (Independence Card) each month.
